10 things you didn’t know about Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan
Or maybe you do – cause you’re a loyal Mighty Boards fan that follows every bit of news we release (you’re the best – thank you)!
On Tuesday September 20th, Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan is coming to Kickstarter. Tom from Slickerdrips told us “I’m SO excited for this!” So are we Tom, so are we!
Let’s dive into the 10 things you might not know about Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan.
-
The game is easy to learn, play and teach
Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan is a game for newcomers and expert players alike. The game starts off easy and has rules and new elements added to it as you go along. It is safe to say that it is easier to learn and play than most games of its ilk, but the situations you will need to solve require increasingly more thought and planning. In other words we have carefully curated the learning curve and complexity to make it easy to learn the game and get into the adventure, while offering tougher challenges as your progress through the campaign.

You can choose how long your game sessions last
One of the great things about Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan is the flexibility with which you can organize your play sessions. An atom of gameplay takes 45 to 60 minutes and consists of a combat and two story scenes. Every 3 or so of such atoms will contain a rest scene which allows players to heal, upgrade their heroes and, if they choose, go on sidequests. You can thus tailor your game sessions to last as little as an hour or as long as you like!

We have teamed up with Studio Agate, Galakta and Ingenio Games! These wonderful partners have decided to join us on our Kickstarter journey. If you back the game, you’ll be able to select your preferred language in the pledge manager.

You’ll receive a FREE Boss Miniature Set with your pledge
Every backer will get the Boss Miniature Set FOR FREE with their pledge! This includes four gorgeous boss minis sculpted by the excellent Slawek Kosciukiewicz from Titanforge. Spoiler: they look awesome!

The system is designed to make you feel like a real action hero
In the words of a few of our playtesters: “When I’m playing through the combats I feel like I am in a movie showing a cool fight scene, not adding up numbers and counting squares.” Rahdo told us “The game has such an incredibly fun and fast-paced loop that is so satisfying because the players are like John Wick in a fantasy universe.”
On top of that, the game has a lot of character development that happens at a regular and steady pace. Roughly each 2 or 3 hours of gameplay are punctuated with rest scenes that allow your heroes to heal, learn new skills and buy new weapons and equipment. Each hero has a completely different complement of skills that makes them unique. These skills are used to manipulate dice rolled into new results and, at times, unleashing powerful combos of skills. There is huge scope for making novel builds of heroes that make each of them unique.

The game is set in an RPG world that has been in development for over 7 years
Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan is set in Eana, a rich and incredibly detailed RPG fantasy world created by the award-winning Studio Agate over the past seven years. Because of our partnership with the studio, we are able to use their creations add incredible depth and detail to our own narrative for the game.

The game comes with an app so you can focus on being the hero
The app is an integral part of Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan and is necessary to play the game. Like a true RPG game master, the app handles all the bookkeeping, tells the story and sets the atmosphere so you can focus on the gameplay and let yourself be immersed in the game. If you’d like, you can read more about the app in Designer Diary 8 or in the FAQ.

A first expansion will be available on the Kickstarter too
The first expansion to Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan: Clash of the Immortals will take you on a journey across the continent of Kaan and introduces a completely new gameplay mechanic, new boss and a new hero – the Enchantress! You’ll get introduced to powerful skills that the whole party can contribute to in order to unleash group moves that add a new level of coordination and complexity. On top of that, the expansion contains new floor plans, scene tiles, side quests, rest locations, enemies, weapons and items!
